When I stood on the podium to receive bronze medal for South Africa at World Championships for Archery. I had no idea that, I, Beatrix Botha, a female, would be in Arctic, in Siberia, Russia … employed as an Electrical & Instrumentation Project Specialist on a Liquefied Natural Gas Plant … directed by the French and staffed by Russians and people from all over the world.
The reality of my extraordinary life hit home when I looked up and saw a real, wild, polar Bear looking at me on site … We were in -50C weather! What an Experience!
Not bad for a kid that had been hospitalized for the first year of her life and faced many traumatic experiences.
It was suggested by doctors that I would never be normal physically like other kids, and yet I went on to achieve in all sports I took part in. (School, Provincial or National) colors in Swimming, Hockey, Gymnastics, Underwater Hockey, Lifesaving and Archery. Today I still cycle and Play hockey.
Great People, Amazing experiences….. Time for new challenges!
I’d love to bring my international experience to Africa … the art of dealing with different Nationalities, Leading and Maintaining a happy, functional and successful team under extreme conditions is challenging and a great achievement.
I believe that each and every experience in life is a unique and valued resource for the next Chapter … I’m curious where it will be!
